Having led more than 30 orchestras across all of Europe, America and Asia, he is one of Spain’s conductors with the most artistic activity beyond our borders. His sound international development has come about thanks to so many of his concerts being real musical events, his reviews serving as a clear reference of his artistic personality.

Has performed in theatres and concert halls such as: Musikverein Golden Hall in Vienna (Austria), Auditorio Nacional of Music in Madrid (Spain), Tonhalle in Zurich (Switzerland), Smetana Hall Municipal House in Prague (Czech Republic), R. Wagner Concert Hall in Riga (Latvia), Theatre de Nimes (France), Theater an der Wien in Vienna (Austria)….

Gaining a PhD in 1989 at Moscow’s Tchaikovsky Conservatoire (one of the most accredited musical universities in the world), he also holds the title of Master of Fine Arts from the above mentioned institution.

He was appointed by Gos-Konzert (the former USSR’s main state company of artistic contracting) as “First Class Artist”.
In Zurich (Switzerland) he studied between 1989 and 1994 with maestro Daniel Sweitzer (conductor of the Zurich Symphony Orchestra), in Vienna (Austria), in the Master classes of the Musical University, and in Spain with maestro Enrique Garcia Asensio.
During his time in Switzerland he received lessons from Yehudi Menuhin at the Gstaad Academy (IMMA) and participated in the Camerata Lysy for some time.

Luis Carlos Badía has been for five years the official conductor of Nimes Philharmonic Orchestra (France), and principal guest conductor of Bari’s Teatro Petrucelli Orchestra (Italy).

Amongst his most outstanding successes the resounding triumph he achieved in the “Umberto Giordano” theatre of Foggia (Italy) stands out. In a programme dedicated solely to W. A. Mozart, for his 250th Aniversary , transmitted by the R.A.I. and Radio Clasica Europea, and merged with another similar from Salzburg; he conducted concerts for various instruments and operas with the orchestra of the aforementioned theatre. He was acclaimed by the general public and expert critics. This has helped to dynamically stimulate his artistic career.

His first album, produced by MMS (of Munich, Germany), received the highest rating (that of excellent, 5 stars) from Madrid’s Ritmo magazine (the longest running and most accredited in classical music in Spain), in which, amongst other works, he presents his own string orchestra version of “West Side Story” by L. Bernstein, in world premiere to important international critics.

Luis Carlos Badía was the first to establish two international music courses in Castilla-la-Mancha. These courses he named “Master Classes in Chamber Orchestra Training” and “International Course in the Music of Yehudi Menuhin”, developing them during the period 1994 until 2001, when he had to cut them short due to his intense artistic activity beyond Spain’s borders. As a result of the establishment of these courses, the 21st Century Castilian-Manchegan Musical Association was born, Luis Carlos Badía being elected president of which for his pioneering ideas, dynamism and the great power of his work. These courses train teachers not only from Spain but also other countries, some years yielding (in a 15-day summer period) up to a hundred participants. These two events are officially accredited by the Ministry of Education and Sciences as Permanent Training Courses for the teaching profession. They take place in the sierra of Alcaraz in the Centre of Environmental Education (Centro de Educación Ambiental, where some episodes of the famous series “Man and the Land” (El Hombre y la Tierra) were filmed.

He has founded more than 14 young orchestras during these courses and master classes.

On the 1st September 2001 in Castilla-la-Mancha, Badía, with his orchestra, gives the first performance of the Maestro Antón García Abril’s “Cantos de Pleamar” (Songs of High Tide) in Albacete’s Cathedral. García Abril, who attended this premiere to a large audience, acknowledged over the microphone the great social and cultural work that the maestro Luis Carlos Badía undertakes in Spain.

Leading his 21st Century Orchestra

He founds the first orchestra of Castilla-la-Mancha, whose original name was “21st Century Orchestra”, making its debut on the 2nd September 1994 in Albacete’s Cathedral before all representatives of the media (radio, press and television) and a large audience. He has undertaken considerable artistic and creative work with this orchestra, framed by the rising musical development of this important collective, now recognised nationally and internationally. The orchestra was later renamed Foundation Auno-Luis Carlos Badía 21st Century Orchestra, as the Auno Foundation assumes its management and patronage.

He has carried out regional, national and international tours with the orchestra, appearing at Madrid’s National Music Auditorium (Auditorio Nacional de Música) in concerts memorable for their grandiose welcome from the audience and expert critics, where H.M. Queen Sofía of Spain was honorary president.

Abroad, the Foundation Auno-Luis Carlos Badía 21st Century Orchestra has won great triumphs on tour at first rate international festivals around Italy in cities such as Venice, Udine, Padova, in the regions of Piamonte and Le Marche, transmitting the majority of its concerts across Italian radio and television. In August 2008 in the international festival Armonia Della Sera, to conclude the concert and after receiving an ovation with his orchestra in the presence a great number of the general public, the media, cultural and political authorities of the region of Le Marche, the President of said region awarded him with a plaque in recognition of his artistic work in the country.

In Brest (Belorussia, 2007) in the XIX International Festival of Classical Music, (founded by the famous maestro Sviatoslav Richter), he received the “Award for High Artistic Expertise”, granted by the government’s regional representative for culture for the city.

The Maestro Luis Carlos Badía is frequently invited to direct one of the main orchestras in Italy, “I Solisti Aquilani”, as well as inaugurating important festivals; he also conducts an important line up of Italian orchestras.

Leading the Foundation Auno 21st Century Orchestra in the tours through Italy in International Festivals such as “Carniarmonie” in the Italian Alps, Udine State,
“Concerti sulla laguna di Venezia”, Venecia Mestre festival etc…. he has achieved overwhelming success, having to perform up to six pieces outside of the programme. The reviews have qualified these concerts as an extraordinary musical success.

In Italy, in the summer of 2007, he was invited by the famous “Academia Pescarese” to give classes in high orchestral improvement and conduct the Pescara’s international orchestra along with maestros of the calibre of Lior Shambadal, head conductor of the Berliner Synphoniker and Donato Renzetti, theatre director of the Opera di Roma.

Students with an accomplished instrumental level from all over the world have attended his classes, constituting a symphonic orchestra of 80 musicians whose teachers have been, amongst others, Boris Baranz, first cello of London’s Philharmonic; Wenzel Fuchs, first clarinet of the Berliner Philarmoniker; Otmar Gainswinkler, first trombone of the Weiner Symphonkier. On completing the first stage of the course the three invited maestros they shared the orchestra between them, primarily carrying out tours of cities local to Pescara, and in January 2008 they toured China and the United States.

The maestro Badía is frequently invited to be a member of the panel in international competitions of various instruments, singing and piano in Spain, Italy, France and Russia. He is a regular guest conductor at international festivals in Italy: “Delle Citta Medievali”, “Villa de Trajano”, “Altipiano della Rocche”, “Carniamonie”, “I concerti sulla laguna di Venezia”, “Musica sull lago”, “Armonia della Sera”, “Udine State”…In Brest (Belorussia) in the International Music Festival Nights of January. In France he’s appeared in events such as Rieutort de Randon, Saint-Chely D’Apecher, to name but a few.

In the festival “Altipiano della Rocche” , in honour of the celebrated Italian composor Sergio Calligaris, the maestro Badía conducted the famous Italian collective “I solisti Aquilani” and the work of the Maestro Calligaris “Toccata, Adagio, e Fuga” op.36. The evening of the concert the composer declared to the audience present that his music had never been performed in such a masterly and captivating way as this- announcing at the end that he would write a piece dedicated to this great artist.

Maestro Calligaris was moved and, after the concert, he expressed his intention to dedicate one his pieces to Badía.

Conducting Czech Symphony Orchestra (Smetana Hall, Prague)

At the end of 2008 he conducted Prague’s Symphonic in the Smetana concert hall, receiving a standing ovation after ending with the “New World” symphony by the Cheque composer A. Dvorak.

The maestro Luis Carlos Badía has produced recordings for radio and television in: Italy, France, Spain, Russia, Byelorussia, Rumania, Ukraine, Mexico, Latvia, Czechoslovakia and Switzerland.

On the 14th November 2009 in the Alcazar Throne Room in Segovia
there was a solemn and tumultuous ceremony, witnessed by Prince Don Enrique of Borbon, in which the maestro Luis Carlos Badia received the prize to merit his cultural contributions and international
artistic recognition.

He was also given the title Knight of the Imperial Hispanic Order of Carlos V, over which Don Juan of Borbon, Count of Barcelona is the permanent alderman. Badia, on being knighted, received, within this institution, the rank of ‘Comendador’, and was awarded the medal of the 5th Centenary of the Emperor Carlos V. In 2012 he was awarded with the Great Plaque of recognition by the mentioned Order.
Although Maestro Badia´s artistic career has been on the up with the years, the concert for the 260th anniversary of W.A Mozart, which took place with on March 19th 2016 at the Golden Hall Musikverein in Vienna, deserves especial mention. Maestro Badia conducted the Symphony orchestra of Budapest and enjoyed a full concert hall, as well as the attendance of distinctive personalities of Vienna such as their Royal Highnesses Anton and Svetlana Esterhàzy.

Maestro Badia delighted the audience with pieces from the Salzuburguese such as recitatives, arias, piano concerto, and violin concerto, concluding with the Symphony n 38 KV 504 ¨Praga¨. The programme was much to the delight of the Viennese audience, who rewarded Badia with a standing ovation lasting for several minutes; a rare indeed response for such a demanding audience and legendary concert hall.
